ABOUT FELIX CONCEPCION

EVOKING EMOTION THROUGH COLOR AND TEXTURE

Felix Mariano Concepcion, born on August 5, 1984, in Bellevue Hospital, New York City, is an artist renowned for his expressive use of color and masterful brushwork. Currently residing in Nutley, New Jersey, his journey into the arts was ignited by early exposures to animation and the rich narratives of mythology, which now permeate his abstract works. Drawing from his Puerto Rican heritage and personal experiences, Concepcion crafts pieces that delve deep into the themes of spirituality, nature, and human emotion, resonating with a diverse audience.

Concepcion’s artwork is characterized by a vibrant palette that seamlessly transitions between warm and cool tones, creating a visual impact that evokes a profound emotional response from viewers. This bold use of color is a signature of his style, whether it dominates the canvas with swirling, energetic motions or subtly accentuates the mood of more tranquil compositions. His approach to color not only defines the aesthetic of his pieces but also enhances the narrative he wishes to convey, bridging the gap between viewer and vision.

The artist employs a variety of brushwork techniques that add depth and texture to his paintings. From thick, impasto strokes that bring a tactile dimension to his work, to softer, blended methods that offer realism and delicacy, Concepcion’s diverse techniques serve to guide the viewer’s eye and highlight the intricate details of each piece. His work often incorporates symbolic and surreal elements, creating a sense of intrigue and mystery through ethereal figures and imaginative landscapes that defy conventional perspectives.

ARTIST STATEMENT

MY JOURNEY THROUGH COLOR AND MYTH

I am driven by the transformative power of art—a journey that began with my earliest memories of animated films and has since evolved into a deep exploration of my cultural roots and personal visions. My artworks are where my passions for color, texture, and mythology converge, creating spaces where viewers can experience the merging of the tangible with the fantastical. Each piece I create is an invitation into worlds both surreal and deeply rooted in cultural narratives, particularly those of my Puerto Rican heritage.

In my studio, surrounded by the tools of my trade and the music that moves me, I craft each artwork to be an emotional and visual odyssey. I am particularly drawn to the myths of the Taino people, aiming to breathe new life into these ancient stories with each stroke of my brush. My artistic voice is an echo of my ancestors, a bid to rekindle the forgotten or overlooked narratives through vibrant color and dynamic compositions. My work is not just an act of creation but also of preservation and education.

Being an artist is an integral part of who I am, and through my art, I seek to inspire others to explore and embrace their own identities and histories. My goal is to leave behind a legacy of curiosity and admiration for the rich tapestry of stories that define our human experience. Each canvas I complete stitches these elements together, aiming to resonate emotionally with others, encouraging them to ponder, appreciate, and question the world around them and the lore that shapes it.
