INVENTIVE LANDSCAPE ARTIST

ABOUT SHARA HUGHES

PERSONAL BACKGROUND AND ARTISTIC JOURNEY

Shara Hughes, a visionary landscape artist based in Brooklyn, New York, is renowned for her captivating and imaginative landscapes. At 42, Shara is embarking on new life adventures, including marriage to fellow artist Austin Eddy and preparing for significant exhibitions, notably her upcoming debut at the David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles. Amidst personal milestones, including settling into a new home in Greenpoint and welcoming a new canine companion, Shara is contemplating a shift in her artistic focus, moving from her signature landscapes to exploring the realm of floral subjects.

Her recent exhibition at the Garden Museum in London signifies this new artistic direction, where she granted flowers a grandiose stature, harmonizing with the spiritual essence of the museum’s setting. Shara’s process is deeply intuitive, blending imagination with a hint of reality, drawing inspiration from other artists while letting her landscapes and floral works evolve from memories and spontaneous creation.

In her Brooklyn studio, Shara engages in a profound dialogue with the canvas, creating landscapes that transcend specific locations to exist in a space of emotion and abstraction. With a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an impressive trail of residencies and exhibitions, Shara continues to explore the interplay of imagination, form, and color, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in her vibrant and reflective creations.

ARTIST STATEMENT

A JOURNEY OF IMAGINATION AND REINVENTION

“In my artistic practice, I strive to create worlds that resonate with both the familiar and the fantastical. My landscapes and floral works are not mere representations but are born from a deep, intuitive process where each stroke and color choice is a dialogue with the unseen. As I transition from the landscapes that have long been my passion to the new exploration of floral subjects, I invite the viewer to join me on this journey of reinvention and discovery.

My aim is not to replicate reality but to offer a gateway to a space where imagination reigns, and emotions can roam freely. Whether through the vibrant chaos of a landscape or the structured beauty of a flower, my art is an invitation to explore, reflect, and connect with the layers of one’s own perception and experience.”
